Hi here are few tips for you given to me from a few people on our Ford Galaxy Owners club website, some good advice that helped us enjoy our first camping trip.....

Make sure your tent pegs are metal and not plastic
Take lots more tent pegs than you need as they will bend when trying to hammer them in and is far easier and quicker to just grab another one than try and straighten the bent one in the rain!
Practice putting the tent up before you get to the camp site.
Air beds are a godsend, but get a decent electric air pump as it takes ages manually pumping up a double air bed!
Get some (5 or more) of the solar powered garden lamps. Dot them around the entrance to the tent at the end of your guy ropes. This will stop you tripping over the guy ropes when you come back to the tent when it's dark and you're p*ssed up!
Get a big plastic box (fill it with food or beer to save space in the car) and put it next to the doorway for everyone's shoes. If everyone takes their shoes off before coming into the tent and puts them in the box then this stops the inside fo the tent getting full of mud, sand etc.

Get at least a couple of WINDBREAKS - can't stress how useful these are when you're cooking!!!

Don't forget torches or a decent light but PLEASE don't use gaz powered lamps in the tent as they are dangerous.

As for the tent pegs make sure you knock them in at a 45 degree angle

Things you might like to consider

Hard plastic plates and mugs (not the disposable ones)
Camping kettle
Washing up bowl
Can/bottle opener
Cutlery
Camping pots and pans (one's that stack inside the other)
Torch
Camping mats (goes under the sleeping bags)
Or as Paul said inflatable bed
Gas igniter (not matches)
Toilet rolls (as campsites loo's run out or use sandpaper as loo roll in there toilets)
Powered milk
Windbreak (to erect around the front/entrance of the tent to give you a bit more privacy)
Washing up liquid and sponges

cant think of anything else at the mo

But the most important bit of advice is.........
Have a good time and enjoy yourselves camping is fun in all weathers.

Cheers

Al
